...then this is your place! It was bad enough that as a lone, female traveler I had to walk through incredibly dim hallways day and night with all kinds of possible places for someone to jump out at you. ANd the decor tries really hard to be trendy and hip, but fails at less-than-IKEA. Then I noticed just after checking in that the attached table on the headboard had tiny BUGS crawling all over it -- I called the front desk and they said they'd send someone right up. An HOUR LATER, no one had come -- I call again, same response. Finally a lady from housekeeping showed, looked at the table, freaked out and left -- without doing a thing. It took THREE more hours to get me into another room my company had booked the room for the week, but you can bet I checked out the next day. Front-desk staff was spacy and slow -- and the weird, disembodied voices in the elvator were bizarre. The food was lame, and the pool bar was loud and vacant, at the same time, and the fragrance spray they use in the lobby is nauseating. forget the $22 valet parking -- I used to live in the area, and you can park on any side street for free, just on the other side of Ralph's. ANd it's safe. I like hip, trendy and different, but this place is completely ridiculous. Somebody send their management team to A Loft in Phoenix to see what they should be doing.

The staff were rude, the continental breakfast that was offered on my booking was refused upojn arrival, and the pool was restricted on the only weekend I was there, booked by a third party I would have had to pay 40 bucks to use a pool that is advertised for use by their customers. The days the pool was available it was FILTHY. Leaves, cigarette butts, cocktail onions and change littered the tiny pool. Yes, tiny, it's 4 feet at it's deepest and maybe 8 feet long, if that. The water was not filtered and reeked of filth. The rooms were small and basically useless. I was there for a week, there should have been at least a dresser, maybe underbed storage, something. The hotel had just changed hands about three days before I arrived and it was obvious. Everything was in shambles and all staff did what they wanted knowing they couldn't be pointed out because no one wears a name tag, just odd pink/orange pins. Useless in reporting the rude behaviour exhibited. And don't even get me started on the $22 bucks a night parking fees. Fees you aren't even made aware of, I had to go ask someone because I happened to overhear someone. Park your car on the other side of Ralph's, near the bowling alley. Free street parking and no problems. And buy food from Ralph's. Cheaper than the garbage they offer and better tasting too.

This was recommeded by a friend. I liked the people, the room and the rate. I didn't like that they kept the $20/day parking fee a secret. I liked it even less, when the parking guy held out his hand for a tip, beyond the fee! Breakfast was good, though...................I'll stay here, again, but find someplace to park.

The Custom is a fun, funky hotel - definately styled for Euro-Hipsters (most of the guests I met were from foreign countries). They also seem to have events there all the time. There was a film festival and a movie shoot during my stay - saw Tori Spelling in the lobby. It's dark in the inner halls with gray walls and black industrial carpet - if you want cheerful and bright, go elsewhere. I really enjoyed my stay - the staff was friendly and helpful. There is also a grocery store and several restaurants within walking distance. The only negative surprise for me was a $22 a day fee for parking. They have no public lot - and the lot for the grocery store next door has 2 hour parking only. There is nearby street parking, but if you are concerned about your rental car like I was, you just get stuck paying. I got a really good deal on my stay, so it wasn't too bad - but this info should definately be in the listing. I would definately stay there again though, if I got that deal again.
