I stayed at hotel June 5-7 2009, though the location of the hotel is perfect, the hotel & service itself is less then that. Upon checking in I was put into a room that was dirty and had spider webs in the in the windows and was the size of a closet (yes it's a downtown property I accepted that, the cleanliness however was not acceptable) I called down to the desk to see about switching rooms and was told I was in the largest room, they didn't offer to move me until I asked for a refund to move elsewhere. I was put in a much nicer room. This seemed to be partly remodeled. The day of check-out a person who was in the room with me dropped their phone between the bed and wall, went to pick it up and found old dried up vomit on the wall, floor and side of the bed. At check out i brought it to the ladies attention and was simply asked if I would like another copy of my bill. I decided that when I got home I would call the manager. Manager was nice apologized and offered to refund my money. Long story short it has been about TWO months and due to lake of competence, and just plan disregard with the extent of this issue; I am STILL waiting for my refund. The customer service is seriously lacking, I have gone through 3 different people promising my refund, none of which have actually followed through. I would advise you spend the extra money and stay in a much cleaner hotel to avoid any situation of this matter.

This is a hotel you stay at if you really don't care about the room at all. The service at the front desk was ok but it seemed like they didn't have enough staff working. It took 3 requests to finally get a pack and play brought to the room. We left the hotel at 4pm and they said they would put it up there and when we got back at 9:30pm it still was in the room. It was pretty basic in the room. We found live bugs in the bathroom (disgusting by the way) and food from other travelers on the floor of the room in plain sight. They left us with 1/4 roll of toilet paper in the room and no extra and when we went downstairs to get more the front desk clerk said he couldn't leave the desk at the moment (understaffed) and gave us some facial tissues to use. Finally when we were checking out the front desk clerk ran out of paper for the computer and then took 10 minutes to find more, mumbling to himself the whole time. In closing, if you want to stay here in Chicago with your family and young ones do not go here. If you're just in town to catch a couple of Cubs games or something and not going to be in the room much then you can beat the price but don't expect anything nice at all.

The important thing for this hotel is its location, it is on the heart of chicago downtown.

Yes, the rooms are small, but we spent minimal time there, and we weren't looking for a luxury experience. Check in/out went smoothly, and the valet ($36/day, as specified on their web site), was polite and helpful. Everything was very clean - no complaints there. The bathtub was showing signs of wear, though, and faucet dripped. Also, paint on the soap dish adjacent to the sink was flaking off. The only significant problem was the temperature of the water in the shower: it barely reached tepid. Oddly enough, you could get the water in the sink piping hot though... It was very convenient for us (location-wise), and the price was right. I can put up with slightly cramped quarters in the room and elevator as long as it's clean, which this was. If they could only get the hot water working in the shower, I'd give this a rating of ""good,"" instead of just ""okay.""

When it was the Raphael Hotel it was charming. Now it is dingy and depressing. The room was so small you had to go out in the hall to change your mind. The staff was nice, but the rooms were dark and dingy, the carpeting in the halls and in the room were stained and dirty. The maid service was top notch, everything clean and done quickly. Still, don't think I would ever stay there again.
