This was one grand hotel in its day. We enjoyed the historic atmosphere with the fountains and chandeliers. It was very clean for its years and the employees were pleasant. It will only be here a short time as it will be torn down in December. It is sad, because there aren?t too many of this type left. The biggest problem is the elevator-or lack of. We stayed on the top floor and the elevator was continuously broken. Every attempt was made to fix it, but it went out again each time. As healthy travelers, it was an annoying, but we saw people with walkers and other health issues trying to get up and down, which proved to be almost impossible for some. Our last morning, at 7:00 we were awakened by what we thought was the neighbor?s alarm clock. It was not very loud-just kind of annoying. After about 5 minutes, my son got up to check and found that it was the fire alarm. We exited the building and found that most people had been out a good 10 minutes and no one checked to see if we all were out. That was kind of frightening ?it was a false alarm. I would stay again, but make sure I had a bottom floor room.

I read reviews first and was skeptical, yes the hotel is a little "older." Checkin was great, friendly and took about 30 seconds. Got to the room. Clean and neat, everything functional, a/c already on (over 92 degrees outside). Used outdoor pool: great central location, fun and inviting atmosphere. Had problem with heat and air being on in room, causing too be hot, called frontdesk then left for a 4-5 hours for nearby event, problem fixed and room cool when returned.

Great overall experience. Checkin and checkout both smooth but took mere minutes. lots of groups at the hotel this weekend but all staff were friendly and professional. Yes, the hotel is a bit older and so are the rooms, but everything in the room was clean and functional. The hotel has a bit of older charm. Outdoor pool was great for relaxing and swimming. Music is provided and there is a refreshment stand also serving beer. Only problem was heat on in room at same time as air conditioning, called front desk, problem was fixed and resolved after returning from event a few hours later.

We have stayed here before years ago. Should have NEVER came back!! Staff was very rude, 1st room had dirty sheets ontop of a clean (sure) bed, toilet nasty, scraps on floor, house keeper was nice and fixed room. Had a room by the pool which we "thought" was nice. wrong! Drunk people running and screaming knocking on doors until we called the desk. The response was "it is a holiday! People are celebrating." so! I asked for a new room, away from noise. They did. 2nd room dirtier than first. We didn't realize it until morning because it was so late when we packed up and switched. Woke up in pain from a lumpy hard mattress. Breakfast: eeewwww! hair in food, dirty glasses, what waitress? cold eggs. Talked with management, they said since we booked through a 3rd party, it was not their problem (side note: 3rd party was great and DID compensate us!!) Shuttle was gross gross gross!! Stinky and dirty, had to wait FOREVER in hot sun, rude driver. DO NOT, I REPEAT<, DO NOT STAY HERE!!!!

This is an older hotel that has had heavy use due to it's location to airport & Expo center (right outside expo gate. I have slept in better beds. My biggest complaint was the restraunt. There are to many good restraunts in area verses eating in a below average one. I would recommend going to some of the local small restraunts which are extremely good along Baxter Aver & Bardstown Road. The hotel staff, cleaning department, maintenance were extremely good and made us feel like old friends coming back to visit. I would recommend this hotel in lieu of some of the fancier stuffy places in the area (Hilton, Holiday Inn). Old does not have to alway have to be bad.
