We were on a business trip to conduct training seminar in Newark area, DE. During the 1st night, our car was vandalized on the hotel parking lot. The window was broken, our Garmin GPS device was stolen. The receptionist called police and didn't offer any help in cleaning the debris. When we left on Sunday evening, the large pile of broken glass was still in the parking lot. the management of the hotel never contacted us after the incident. When we called on Tuesday to speak with the manager ourselves, Susan Muzzi, she was rude and resentful. She kept repeating that the hotel was not responsible for our loss, never appologized or tried to be helpful in dealing with this experience. According to her, she contacted the owner and then called us back the next day again to repeat one more time that there is nothing they can do. We understand that bad things sometimes happen. We do not complain because our car was robbed on the Marriott's parking lot, but because how it was handled by the hotel. Nobody at any point said sorry or appologized. After all, this 2-night stay at Townplace Suites Marriott cost us $1,000 (stolen GPS+window repair+hotel stay charges) plus nerve-wrecking experience during an important business seminar. We realize that the hotel may not have legal liability for the incident, however, we are sure that something could have been done to make us feel better and protect reputation of the Marriott brand. It looked like the management completely didn't care what we thought of the hotel and bad publicity such a poor service could generate. We are preferred Marriott members, had stayed with Marriott brands and conducted numerious meetings and seminars at Marriott's family. It is our desire now to chose friendlier places to stay.
