My husband and I stayed in Birmingham, AL, a beautiful city, one night for a friend's retirement party. We chose a Best Western we knew to be in a desirable part of the city. The elevator was really nasty. The first room assigned to us had dirty sheets--extremely wrinkled, makeup on pillow cases. The second room assigned, also a Non-Smoking room, smelled like a room full of stale ashtrays--AWFUL! We were assigned a third room that was okay, but like the other two, had several light bulbs missing from lamps. We had to take bulbs from some lamps and put them in others to read or choose clothing. The desk attendant responded quickly to assign other rooms, but obviously, this motel needs to "clean house" and hire new housekeepers.

The room was clean, but there's no way this was worth $*/night. When we arrived at 10:45PM, the lobby doors were locked and I had to ring a bell at a sliding glass window while I stood outside. The desk attendant (I mean windowattendant) was not very happy that I had interrupted whatever she was doing. The room door was on the outside of the building (like a motel) that wasn't pictured in the photos, and when we got in the room and closed the door, we couldn't safety latch the door because it had been damaged. The "high speed internet" had a 1995 connection port that's not compatible with a standard network cable, so I couldn't use it. My opinion overall was that the room was clean and comfortable (apart from the safety concern), but was only worth $*/night.
