Granted, our room was $ which is a deal for this hotel. But for that we had a room with only one nightstand (had to use a chair) $ for internet is ridiculous these days, and parking $ a night was high. Went to dining room at 6:25a.m., wide open with staff sitting and talking. I began to come in and was told to wait in the lobby for five minutes. Bar was so incredibly noisy that we could literally not converse. They have closed the main opulent dining room for dinner. Our thinking is that a hotel of this presumed stature would offer <more> amenities, not less.

I searched for the best location to use public transportation from the airport and all around town. This hotel was the best. All transportation right outside the door. Although we enjoyed walking many places; across the Golden Gate Bridge, around Sausolito, on the beach and on the wharf, it was great to get to these places easily and fun. We went to a different part of the city each day. The hotel was very accommodating for our special trip (a milestone birthday), they let us check in early, check out late and even surprised us with a plate of chocolate covered strawberries and a birthday card immediately after check in. Very thoughtful. Would definitely stay here again. Only wished the pool and hot tub were open later.

We stayed at the Palace hotel for four nights as part of our honeymoon. The hotel is very nice, clean, nice atmosphere with high ceilings, old style charm. Our bathroom had a couple of plumbing issues, mainly a noisy toilet. Good restaurants in the hotel, only drawback was that since we were in the financial district, a few places close by weren't open on the weekends. Staff is friendly, maid service good, room service very pricey, but then so is all food in the city. The Hearst parking garage is less than a block away and easily accessed, much cheaper than the hotel's service. Hotel is extremely convenient to public transportation - cable cars to Fisherman's Wharf, etc., and the BART station is right outside the door, which can get you to the airport as well. We highly recommend the Muni bus pass for the length of your stay, and get the map, shows all the routes and info to get you just about anywhere in San Francisco you want to go.

We chose the Palace Hotel for our week stay in SFO to celebrate our 10th yr wedding anniversary based on price, traveler reviews and online photos. I am pleased to report that the Palace Hotel exceeded our expectations. Everyone, from the doorman as we arrived, to the associate who upgraded us from a superior to a deluxe room @ check-in, to room service who placed decadent chocolate covered strawberries in our room upon arrival, to the concierge who helped us plan our days, all offered the highest quality of service. I recommend stating if visiting for a special occasion as the hotel accommodated us with complimentary ?treats?. Since hotel parking is a bit pricey, I suggest Hearst Parking which is just around the corner at half the price. Entering the lobby, you are greeted by the Garden Court Restaurant. Again, menu is a bit pricey, so, from a viewing standpoint, it was truly spectacular. The guest rooms weren?t huge, but, nicely appointed. Take the complimentary tour of the hotel as it gives a nice historical perspective. On your right before you enter the main floor elevators, you?ll notice an actual ?working? antique brass mailbox which went overlooked until pointed out by our tour guide. Don?t forget to enjoy the indoor pool/spa/workout area! The Palace?s central location allowed us to use public transportation during the day and cabs at night. $1.50 allowed passage within the city practically all day long. If flying to SFO and don?t need a car, BART offers direct transportation from SFO airport to the steps of the Palace Hotel. If shopping, exit the Market St. doors, walk a few blocks to your left and you?ll end up at the Westfield San Francisco Centre, a huge indoor mall. We loved our stay and cannot wait to return.

The main courtyard near the reception area is breathtaking. Most of the hotel has an elegant, historic feel. The restaurant and bar down the hall from the courtyard look like they're from a bygone area as well. There is a BART station just outside the hotel, and there are many trams and busses on Market Street. You can walk to many restaurants and shops, and even the Ferry Building. Room was nice, albeit a bit small (at least in cmoparison with the Biltmore in L.A., where we had stayed the night before).
