We stayed at the Grand Hyatt in late July 2009. The staff were very friendly and helpful doorman, valet, cleaning staff, conceirge, and front desk. the rooms were clean and quiet. The hotel had a great location with easy access to trolley's, buses, and taxis. We had a great time on our vacation, and got a lot of good ideas for things to do with the kids from the conceirge. It doesn't have a pool, but it does have a restaurant on the top floor and decent sized gym much bigger than you find in most hotels with a good mix of multiple cardio and weight machines. We will definity stay here next time we go.

I don't know how ANYONE could rate this hotel a ""1"". The service I recieved on my business trip here was OUTSTANDING in every way. Even if the service wasn't perfect for other raters, the location on Union Square cannot be beat. All the great deparment stores are located right here, You are 2 blocks from Chinatown, and about 8 blocks from North Beach. You are also 1 block from the #30 bus which will take you to FIsherman's Wharf and Ghirardelli Square, and a block from a cable car stop (3 blocks from the end of the line at Powell). The restaurant at the top of the hotel has outstanding views. It is rather expensive ($18 for a delicious crab & shrimp Louie Salad), but SF tends to be that way anyway. Normally, I stay near Fisherman's Wharf. But I enjoyed my stay so much at this hotel that I may make it my location of choice. It is easy to get to the waterfront, and very easy to get to the hotel using BART from either Oakland or SFO. Unless you are carrying a great amount of luggage, then just take the BART here. As for views, I was on the 15th floor, and had a bit of a view of the bay. I could see the bay from my room, but the view was partially blocked from other buildings. But considering this was downtown SF, it didn't really bother me. It's not like I sit in my room staring out of the window. Overall, an excellent stay, and worth the high price.

My wife and I stayed 4 nights for our anniversary in September. We were checked in very promptly. We requested a bay view but received a lower Union Square view. We were already warned unless you are part of the Hyatt frequent stayers to not expect too much. The room was very clean but were next to a person that partied and stayed up all night going in and out of his room 10-20 times a night. He always slammed his door coming and going. Repeated calls to the desk and security was met with we will check it out. Not. Other then that we liked the hotel because of it's location.

Room with a view? I think not...

Overall the stay was good. When I booked the room I paid extra for a room with a bay view. To my surprise when I got to my room and looked out the widows, all I could see were other office buildings and other skyscrapers. The room itself was a larger corner unit, very clean and even had an alarm clock with a iPod dock and mp3 audio input, so that was nice feature. After going downstairs to the check-in desk to see about getting a room with an actual bay view, I was told that there were only a few rooms with a view of the bay and I was out of luck, no offer of reducing my room rate or any of that was offered. I was disappointed in that fact. But overall my experience there was good. I would recommend this hotel to anyone as long as they didn't care about a "room with a view"

checking in was easy enough although the front desk area/lobby is very small for a hotel this size, i went up to my room after a long day of traveling and opened up the room service menu, prepared for steep prices as usual. i found a cheeseburger with fries for $19 dollars and thought that was acceptable and placed the order over the phone and the attendant said "with all gratuity tax and service charges that will come to $41.74" i cancelled my order and went across the street to statbucks. outrageous. there is only one restaurant on the property and it is on the 36th floor with a great view of nob hill, rather small. picturesque but rather small and the food aint a gastronomical marvel it's just nice. the bathroom of my room had a mini tv which was ok i guess, hair dryer worked complimentary coffee in the room (shocking) everything is dated here by about 10 years. in 1996 this would all have looked shiny and new but it's beginning to age a bit. i booked a room at $250 per night and after checking out with one meal charged to the room and a couple of things to the minibar, the bill was $514 dollars for one night. might as well have stayed at the four seasons or something right
