This location was horrible. in a very bad part of town. We asked to look at a room before we would consider checking in. The smell when we opened the door to the room was terrible. Even with all the lights on in the room it was very very dim. It made you wonder what they were trying to hide. The room was back in almost an alley way that was very dark and unsafe looking. Needless to say, we did not check in. The only good part of the whole experience was that they gave us our money back. We went down the street a ways to a Fairfield.

Less persistent traveler may have been dissuaded by the half mile uphill trudge sans sidewalk along a 6-lane highway from the nearest Metro stop. However, my husband and I like a deal. We began to lose hope in the establishment with the second-rate free breakfast, served in a tiny, overcrowded "lobby," staff looking on behind a glass window. The expired cream cheese, roaches crawling on the water fountain were like a slap in the face. When we researched this hotel and saw it was "off the beaten path," we wondered, does location really matter if we plan to spend most of the day away from the hotel? This dingy establishment serves as a stark warning against "great deals," and a response to our question. YES, location does matter and you will pay the difference in taxi fare on the way. Man up and spring for the nicer option.

Didn't even leave home and said no
07/17/2009Based on several other people's reviews, this is definitely not the place to stay. i suggest staying in a suburb, such as alexandria or arlington, but near the metro.

My daughter and I turned around at the sight of this messy, dirty place. The neighborhood is OK but mostly RR tracks and a 6 lane highway roaring outside the window. We forfeited our non-refundable reservation when we saw missing doors to the rooms and filthy mattresses hanging out to dry. Go elsewhere, please.

The entire perimeter of the motel smelled of URINE. This property could benefit from a good power washing of the walkways and stairs. I held my breath every time I walked from my car to my room. My floor had obvious trash, indicating it had not been vacuumed prior to my arrival. The table had a pink sticky residue on it and the sink area also had some type of residue. I wiped down surfaces with anti-bacterial solution. The entrance could use a couple of flower pots --it would have been somewhat welcoming. The lobby (such as it was) could use brighter light. It was like walking into a bail bonds office conducting business with the staff behind dirty plexi-glass. The food area surfaces and floor were dirty. Even at $*/night, I have stayed at other hotels that made a greater impression with a little attention to detail. This experience has clouded my judgement of all Howard Johnson properties.
